Palm Springs Wind Farm Elopement

Alyssa + Gavin

Coachella Valley is arguably one of the most talked about desert locations in Southern California. It is the home to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach Country Music Festival , and of course Hollywood’s playground, Palm Springs. But there is also something else that’s super special about this desert landscape. It is home to oldest wind farm in the United States.

Every time I pass through Palm Springs I can’t help but to think of Don Quixote. I imagine him galloping along with his faithful companion, Sancho Panza, and abruptly being confronted by 2,700 giants. Thats right, the San Gorgonio Wind Park is home to 2,700 giant, energy producing, windmills.

This makes the location one of Coachella Valleys most Iconic Views.

I couldn’t think of a better place for two adventure seeking whimsical souls like Alyssa and Gavin. Now we knew that it was going to be windy (duh? it’s a wind farm) but holy moly we must of gone on an especially windy day. The average wind speed in  The San Gorgonio Pass is around 6 MPH. The day that they decided to elope we were faced with 18 MPH wind gusts! But let me tell you, these to lovers were real champs. I can’t tell you how many times Gavin took off after Alyssas hat. And man can this guy run.

The wind farm is spread out over a very large area and honestly you could park anywhere along the road and have a spectacular view. I personally like to park at the Palm Springs Amtrak Station. This location features a large grouping of windmills and a stunning view of the San Jacinto Mountains.
