Jonelle + Randall
I was absolutely thrilled when Jonelle and Randall reached out to me for this session. Shooting a romantic coupled session in South Lake Tahoe has been on my wish list for quite some time. Those of you who follow me I was absolutely thrilled when Jonelle and Randall reached out to me for this session. Shooting a romantic coupled session in South Lake Tahoe has been on my wish list for quite some time. Those of you who follow me know that I am currently based in San Diego, CA. Lake Tahoe is about an 8 hour road trip from San Diego but my family literally LIVES for travel. It just so happened that my spring travel plans lined up with their ideal date. Can you say kismet?
Lake Tahoe is one the most popular lake destinations in the United States. And honestly after a short visit I can totally see why. May, the off season, is arguably one of the best times to visit this mountain top ski and beach oasis. Its crystal clear blue waters are completely surrounded by snow capped mountains and lush evergreens. And the best part? Literally no one was on the beach during our session. Which is probably a good thing... seeing as it was technically a nude beach....But let's be honest, no one is going to be out sunning in their birthday suits when its
45 °F outside.
Now not being a local sometimes presents a challenge when trying to select the perfect location for a shoot. Especially somewhere like Lake Tahoe where everywhere you turn is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. After hours and hours of research I finally s tumbled upon Secret Cove. Im going to be real with you. It did not get its name and reputation as the local naturalist hangout by being easy to find. But after seeing so many great landscape images of the location I absolutely had to shoot there.
The hike to the beach starts off easy in a very small parking lot, which I am told fills up before 9 am during the summer months. It just so happened that it was closed (until Memorial Day weekend) so we still ended up having to park on the side of the road. No big deal. On the far end of the parking lot is a maintenance road . This road is very flat and makes for an easy quarter mile to the actual trail head that leads down to the beach. All of this is super easy and requires little effort. Just remember if you go down the trail you have to be able to make it back up.
